The whole pair is built entirely from scratch, re-using only the soles of the Air Jordan 4. The whole uppers are constructed using the vintage boro indigo (藍染襤褸) fabric with a full premium lambskin liner. The boro fabric used is from the 1800s-1900s japan, so its amount is very limited. Due to the material limitations, only 5 pairs will be available.
Japanese Indigo Boro Fabric:
Boro is a traditional patchwork style, meaning “ragged” or “tattered”. The boro style was favored by nineteenth and early twentieth-century rural Japanese. During the Edo period, fabrics made from silk and cotton were reserved for only a select portion of the upper class. Boro thus came to predominately signify clothing worn by the peasant farming classes, who mended their garments with spare fabric scraps of different indigo shades out of economic necessity. In many cases, the usage of such a boro garment would be handed down over generations, eventually resembling a patchwork after decades of mending.
The fabric itself shows lots of natural wear & naturally faded shades. Each boro fabrics got its own unique patchwork & sashiko (刺し子) hand-stitching pattern, and that’s what makes it special and unique.
(Every pair is unique due to the uniqueness of the boro fabric's patchwork pattern & sashiko stitiching, but the overall look will be the same as shown.)
